Having issues downloading Forge Client

I'm having trouble downloading the client. Everytime I click on the launcher it just downloads a .jar file that I can't review or even click to open. I've tried to download the installer and the launcher with no luck. I'm having trouble finding forums or videos to help me out. I'd appreciate a step by step walkthrough if at all possible.

Install Java.

1. Do not follow tutorials on YouTube, especially TechnoVision (previously called Loremaster) and HarryTalks, due to their promotion of bad practice and usage of outdated code.

2. Always post your code.

3. Never copy and paste code. You won't learn anything from doing that.

Don't download the launcher, use the installer.

And here's a link to get Java: https://adoptopenjdk.net/

 

Make sure to get Java 8 Hotspot.

 

*edit: also, just FYI, only 1.14.4 and 1.15.2 are supported here, so if you're trying for older versions, while they should work, you won't get any help from here with them.
