I want to start a modded Minecraft Server, Is there a way to detect cheat clients on entry?

 If what plugins can do is use some measures  like reading player interactions to prevent hacking and ban them, is possible for mods istead of plugins to detect hack clients on entry and prevent whatever input they put in the server?

The very nature of a "cheat client" means that it appears to be a normal, vanilla Minecraft instance, but is modded in a way to bypass security issues on the server.

I found a mod that requires to be installed in both client and server. The client will check the folder for any unwanted mod on the mods folder. According to most comments it really works however i need more info from forge itself

Cheaters won’t install anti cheats to get themselves banned though...

Cheating is done by modifying the client. Cheaters have access to the client, therefore all “client-side anti cheats” are fundamentally flawed.

What do you mean "now"? Cheat clients have always had the ability to lie to the server.

Also, just my opinion, but you saying that Minecraft is "showing it's limits finally" makes me feel like you're looking for something to look down on Minecraft for.

 

Edit: All that is needed to defeat that mod is a mod that pretends to be it that responds with a packet that's filtered to not mention the illegal mods that are installed.

The only official source for Forge is https://files.minecraftforge.net, and the only site I trust for getting mods is CurseForge.

If you use any site other than these, please take a look at the StopModReposts project and install their browser extension, I would also advise running a virus scan.

Curse/Overwolf: If you are using the Curse Launcher, their configurations break Forge's log settings, fortunately there is an easier workaround than I originally thought, this works even with Curse's installation of the Minecraft launcher as long as it is not launched THROUGH Twitch:

  2. Make a launcher profile targeting this version of Forge.
  3. Set the launcher profile's GameDir property to the pack's instance folder (not the instances folder, the folder that has the pack's name on it).
  4. Now launch the pack through that profile and follow the "Mojang Launcher" instructions above.

Server Not Starting:

If your server does not start or a command window appears and immediately goes away, run the jar manually and provide the output.

 

Reporting Illegal/Inappropriate Adfocus Ads:

Get a screenshot of the URL bar or copy/paste the whole URL into a thread on the General Discussion board with a description of the Ad.

Lex will need the Ad ID contained in that URL to report it to Adfocus' support team.

 

Posting your mod as a GitHub Repo:

When you have an issue with your mod the most helpful thing you can do when asking for help is to provide your code to those helping you. The most convenient way to do this is via GitHub or another source control hub.

When setting up a GitHub Repo it might seem easy to just upload everything, however this method has the potential for mistakes that could lead to trouble later on, it is recommended to use a Git client or to get comfortable with the Git command line. The following instructions will use the Git Command Line and as such they assume you already have it installed and that you have created a repository.

 

  1. Open a command prompt (CMD, Powershell, Terminal, etc).
  2. Navigate to the folder you extracted Forge’s MDK to (the one that had all the licenses in).
  3. Run the following commands:
    1. git init
    2. git remote add origin [Your Repository's URL]
      • In the case of GitHub it should look like: https://GitHub.com/[Your Username]/[Repo Name].git
    3. git fetch
    4. git checkout --track origin/master
    5. git stage *
    6. git commit -m "[Your commit message]"
    7. git push
  4. Navigate to GitHub and you should now see most of the files.
    • note that it is intentional that some are not synced with GitHub and this is done with the (hidden) .gitignore file that Forge’s MDK has provided (hence the strictness on which folder git init is run from)
  5. Now you can share your GitHub link with those who you are asking for help.

I just want to start a non pay2win modded server with beautiful world gen and dragons. I already bought the expensive hardware. Bit because of Minecraft cheaters, I have to find plugins  or mods that would disallow it.

Ok thank you for chatting and having the time it really means a lot to me. I have figured to follow earth mc's  technique of only allowing youtubers. Them hacking would damage their reputation and will be reported by their fans or other youtubers. Only difference no pay 2 win! I know BarrenDome used a vanilla duplication exploit for diamonds but i can find a way to fix it.

There is this server plugin called Matrix that does a pretty good job of detecting cheats (although not Forge relevant).

I’ve tested the plugin for my friend’s server with custom written cheats, and it seems to do well with simple cheats (ones created without an anti cheat in mind).

If you need better anti cheats then I’m afraid you will need more moderators.

    • I use Bisect-Hosting, and I host a relatively modded server.  There is a mod I desperately want to have in a server. https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/minehoplite This is MineHop. It's a mod that replicates the movement capabilities seen in Source Engine games, such as Half-Life, and such.  https://youtu.be/SbtLo7VbOvk - A video explaining the mod, if anyone is interested.  It is a clientside mod, meaning whoever is using it can change anything about the mod that they want, with no restrictions, even when they join a server with the same mod. They can change it to where they can go infinitely fast, or do some other overpowered thing. I don't want that to happen. So I just want to know if there is some way to force the SERVER'S configuration file, onto whoever is joining.  I'm not very savvy with all this modding stuff. There are two config files: minehop-common.txt, and minehop.txt I don't really know much about how each are different. I just know what the commands relating to acceleration and stuff mean.

    • Ok so: Two things to note: It got stuck due to my dimension type. It was previously the same as the overworld dimension tpye but after changing it , it didn't freeze during spawn generation. ALSO, APPARENTLY, the way I'm doing things, the game can't have two extremely-rich dimensions or it will make the new chunk generation be veeery VEEERY slow. I'm doing the dimension file genreation all in the data generation step now, so it's all good. Mostly. If anybody has any tips regarding how can i more efficently generate a biome-rich dimension, im all ears.
