The BHL is a realistic Minecraft hockey league intended for players who are serious about Minecraft and Hockey. We welcome all users to join, learn, and become all-stars in the BHL. There is a custom resource pack to enhance the playing experience by adding custom textures and sounds as well.

The BHL is more than your average Minecraft hockey game. The BHL's mission is to provide a gaming experience that is as realistic to real hockey as possible. Since its inception in 2018, the BHL has gone through a multitude of updates, changes, and enhancements to make the game even better and more realistic. The hockey game mode itself dates back to 2014 when it was just a poorly made hockey mini-game for Minecraft 1.8.

All games are broadcasted live on the Blockey Sports Network (BSN) YouTube Channel. We play games on Fridays and Saturdays in the evening.

Each team has a unique name and location, custom built arena, uniform/jersey, goal horn + song, and even win horn. The league currently has 5 teams with each team having about 7-8 players each. We are expanding to 6 teams in Season 7, and we are planning to expand to 7 teams in Season 8.

Why join the BHL?

The BHL gives you a chance to be part of something bigger than any game mode you've ever played on any other server. The seasons last 10 games and a postseason proceeds the regular season. There is something special about playing on a team and building new friendships with teammates and even rivals.

What version of Minecraft is it for?

The BHL runs for Java Edition Minecraft 1.13.2. The reason for this is because Minecraft servers has got progressively worse performance-wise over the past few updates and 1.13.2 is a stable enough to run the game.

What makes this unique compared to other past leagues?

The BHL is unique in the fact that it resembles real hockey as much as possible. These are some notable features:

  1. Ability to block the puck from passing through player model by holding crouch
  2. Toggle-able stick power between stick handle, pass/shoot, & slapshot
  3. Player stamina that makes line changing actually necessary
  4. Resource pack to allow for goal horns and other hockey-related sounds
  5. Referees for each official BHL game to call penalties
  6. Each game is broadcasted live and available for playback
  7. Player and team stats are recorded in a Google Document (available for public view)
  8. Goal and assist(s) messages in-game for real time stat recognition
  9. Rating caps for teams to keep the league balanced
  10. And many more cool features!

How many players on a team? On the ice?

Teams can consist of at most 8 players. Games are played three-on-three. Extra players stay on the bench and may change with players on the ice on-the-fly.

How long are games? Periods?

Games consist of three periods, each lasting five minutes in length. The game clock does not run during stoppages. Games generally last about 20-25 minutes in length. Games can enter overtime; an overtime period lasts five minutes and is sudden death. In the regular season, a game tied after the first overtime will enter a second overtime that will be played two-on-two. The game will take as many overtimes as necessary to decide a winner. There are no shootouts in the BHL. A game in the postseason will take as many overtimes as necessary as well, but they will all be played three-on-three.

Are there goalies?

Yes, there are mandatory goalies for each team playing with three on the ice. The goalie counts as one of the three players on the ice. In two-on-two overtime, goalies are not required.

What season are you in?

The BHL is currently in the postseason of its 6th season (as of March 2, 2020).

Is the BHL competitive?

The BHL is extremely competitive and getting more so by the season. Due to the unique rating cap system (discussed below), the teams of the BHL are evenly balanced making it a very competitive league. There are numerous rivalries throughout the league as well.

What about toxicity? Is the BHL a toxic league?

The BHL strives to be a friendly and fun league. While there are a fair share of toxic people in the league, the commission cracks down on this behavior if it ever gets too out of control.

What stats are recorded?

Team and player stats are recorded in a public Google Document. As for player stats, games played, goals, assists, and points are recorded. As for teams, games played, wins, loses, OT loses, points, goals for, goals against, and goal differential are recorded. Here is a look at the Season 6 Standings and Statistics.

What is the rating/salary cap?

The BHL uses a rating system that mathematically calculates the rating of each player based on their stats (GP, G, A, & P). The minimum rating a player can have is 0.5. The maximum rating is 5.0. Each team is limited to 15.0 points. Each player's rating on the team combines to make the team's rating.
