[1.13.2] How to make a new transparent block

Recommended Posts

I created a block:

BlockList.butter_block = new Block(Block.Properties.create(Material.GLASS).hardnessAndResistance(2.0f, 3.0f)
        																				.lightValue(15)
        																				.sound(SoundType.SLIME)
        																				.slipperiness(1.06f)
        																				.variableOpacity()
        																				).setRegistryName(location("butter_block"))

I created a transparent texture and the blockItem in hand is transparent (like grass) but it's opaque (not transparent) when put on the ground. What's the problem?

Define "it's solid".

Remember to override Block#getRenderLayer to return RenderLayer.CUTOUT though.

1. Do not follow tutorials on YouTube, especially TechnoVision (previously called Loremaster) and HarryTalks, due to their promotion of bad practice and usage of outdated code.

2. Always post your code.

3. Never copy and paste code. You won't learn anything from doing that.

Programming via Eclipse's hotfixes will get you nowhere

5. Learn to use your IDE, especially the debugger.

Judging from the screenshot, you might want to return RenderLayer.TRANSPARENT (can't remember the spelling) instead of CUTOUT.

For more information, please read http://greyminecraftcoder.blogspot.com/2014/12/transparent-blocks-18.html.

This tutorial is for 1.8; however, the concept of block layers remains the same.

My issue was that I thought this can be done without adding a new class. My bad.

Thank you.

public class CrazyBlock extends Block
{
    public CrazyBlock(Block.Properties builder)
    {
        super(builder);
    }
    public BlockRenderLayer getRenderLayer()
    {
        return BlockRenderLayer.TRANSLUCENT;
    }
}

There may also be isOpaque or isFullCube that you might have to fiddle with too. I haven't poked around in 1.13 yet, but isSolid (and isSideSolid) was used for mechanical transparency (i.e. could you place a torch on it) whereas isOpaque dealt with the rendering aspect.

Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable.  If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME.  Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.

Exception: If you do not understand Java, I WILL NOT HELP YOU and your thread will get locked.

DO NOT PM ME WITH PROBLEMS. No help will be given.

isSolid is the (new) 1.13.2 equivalent of isOpaqueCube & isOpaqueCubes is now a lot more complicated
