[1.12.2] IItemColor

Hi!

I started modding about a week ago and Java overall, but I got some other experience within programming and modding other games in Unity.

I am more in a testing phase that actually adding new content to the game before I delve into bigger projects, one of them is to add new items more resourceful than have to make a separate model and texture file for each new entry and metadata, And as you guys can read from the title I am having issues with IItemColor.

The idea is to color the item (in this case an ingot) for their respective color to better differentiate from one another. Uranium is green, nickel is yellow, etc. The 16 colors that come with Minecraft does not cut it in variation and will cause issues when the certain item does not align perfectly with the saturation of the texture. And I will be limited to 16 variants of ingots which is also an issue.

I looked at the code for the dyes and their handler and simply copied it to my own color handler in the way I felt fit. NOTE. I am just starting with modding Minecraft and Java and OOP in general (did a little in Unity, but I wouldn't count that in) and don't really know what I'm doing.

ColorHandler:

public class ColorHandler {
    public enum ColorTypes implements IStringSerializable {
        GREEN("green",6192150),
        YELLOW("yellow",12172664);

        private String name;
        private int color;

        ColorTypes(String name, int color) {
            this.name = name;
            this.color = color;
        }

        @Override
        public String getName() {
            return this.name;
        }

        public int getColor() {
            return color;
        }
    }
}

ClientProxy Snippet:

for (int j = 0; j< EnumIngotHandler.IngotTypes.values().length; j++) {
            registerItemModelMeta(intercraftcore.INGOT,j, "ingot");
        }

protected static void registerItemModelMeta(Item item,int meta,String type) {
        ModelLoader.setCustomModelResourceLocation(item,meta,new ModelResourceLocation(Reference.MODID+":"+type,"inventory"));
    }

I have no idea where to go from here, help is much appreciated.

Subscribe to ColorHandlerEvent.Item from your client proxy and register your IItemColor to the ItemColors instance.

@SubscribeEvent
    public void itemColorHandlers(ColorHandlerEvent.Item event) {
        ItemColors colors = event.getItemColors();

    }

Ok, I added that. Not sure what you meant with register IItemColor to the ItemColors instance. I have my ingot items as metadata to avoid duplicate classes.

This is how I have the ingots set up:

EnumIngotHandler:

public class EnumIngotHandler {
    public static enum IngotTypes implements IStringSerializable {
        URANIUM("uranium_ingot",0,"green"),
        NICKEL("nickel_ingot",1,"yellow"),
        CHROME("chrome_ingot",2,"green"),
        SILVER("silver_ingot",3,"green");

        private int ID;
        private String name;
        private String color;

        private IngotTypes(String name, int ID, String color) {
            this.ID = ID;
            this.name = name;
            this.color = color;
        }

        @Override
        public String getName() { return this.name; }
        public int getID() { return ID; }
        public String getColor() { return color; }

        @Override
        public String toString() {
            return getName();
        }
    }
}

    • I have been having a problem with minecraft forge. Any version. Everytime I try to launch it it always comes back with error code 1. I have tried launching from curseforge, from the minecraft launcher. I have also tried resetting my computer to see if that would help. It works on my other computer but that one is too old to run it properly. I have tried with and without mods aswell. Fabric works, optifine works, and MultiMC works aswell but i want to use forge. If you can help with this issue please DM on discord my # is Haole_Dawg#6676

    • I have no idea how a UI mod crashed a whole world but HUGE props to you man, just saved me +2 months of progress!
    • So i know for a fact this has been asked before but Render stuff troubles me a little and i didnt find any answer for recent version. I have a custom nausea effect. Currently i add both my nausea effect and the vanilla one for the effect. But the problem is that when I open the inventory, both are listed, while I'd only want mine to show up (both in the inv and on the GUI)   I've arrived to the GameRender (on joined/net/minecraft/client) and also found shaders on client-extra/assets/minecraft/shaders/post and client-extra/assets/minecraft/shaders/program but I'm lost. I understand that its like a regular screen, where I'd render stuff "over" the game depending on data on the server, but If someone could point to the right client and server classes that i can read to see how i can manage this or any tip would be apreciated
