[1.12.2] Using Blockstates for inventory models

Hi, I'm very new to modding and I've made way to many item block models and I will need to make even more soon. I've seen that other mods have used blockstates in order to circumvent this. I was wondering what I would needed to do in order to use blockstates for item models. Because, I've tried to put things like "inventory": [{}] in my blockstate but nothing happens to the model in game, it just stays that all too familiar purple and black texture.

You need to call ModelLoader#setCustomModelResourceLocation during the ModelRegistryEvent event, providing the ItemBlock, Meta (what Block::getMetaFromState would return for that state), ResourceLocation (Block::getRegistryName) & the variant; here being "inventory".
This will tell Minecraft that a variant exists for this (item)block and that it is called "inventory", and should be gotten from the BlockState JSON's element of equal name.
