Access default minecraft textures from forge source?

Is it possible to get the default Minecraft textures from the Forge source? I like basing my textures off vanilla counterparts, and it's useful to have the entire texture library there and available in my workspace. I'm 90% you used to be able to in 1.7, so I'm wondering if there's still a way to do it.

You can extract the vanilla jar file for the version of your using and use that to get the entire texture library.
